Year 11 Exam Concert

Posted In Music

On Thursday last week, the Music department made history again at Bethany by hosting their third annual Year 11 Exam Concert.

The reason this event was different from anything that has happened before was that rather than pupils completing their performance exam within the classroom, they were instead given the opportunity to carry out their exam within a real live music venue. Year 11 Music Performance pupils took to the stage at The Grey Lady in Tunbridge Wells on Thursday night to perform a range of high-quality performances that they have spent the last six weeks preparing to a packed out audience made up of friends and family.

The event proved to be a huge success with some stand-out performances from the likes of Holly Adamson who performed a stunning rendition of Billie Eilish’s hit song, “Ocean Eyes”, as well as Matthew Butters and Cobe Bennett who turned up the volume to play their cover of the classic floor-filler, “I Bet That You Look Good on the Dancefloor” by Arctic Monkeys.

It has been so great to see the evolution of this event. The first time I did this at Bethany, we had two pupils performing in a classroom with four people in the audience. Now just two years later we have fifteen pupils performing in a really great live music venue performing to a packed out room of close to 60 guests. The pupils just constantly amaze me with how much they raise the bar every time, and it’s now my job to try and raise that bar higher for them and think of ways we can make this event even more successful next time.
