Year 10 take a trip to Flatford Mill

Posted In Academic

On Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd April, Year 10 pupils undertook two days of Geography fieldwork at Flatford Mill studies Centre in Suffolk. With two excellent tutors delivering classroom and outdoor sessions, our pupils have now had a great opportunity to put their knowledge into context.

On the first day we had a brief introduction on how to form an investigation and hypothesis and then visited Walton on the Naze, which proved an excellent case study for both managed and unmanaged coastlines. The Centre provided excellent equipment and Year 10 were able to practice some contemporary techniques. This was followed up by some late evening classroom activities directly tailored towards their GCSE.

On the last day, we visited three sites along the River Brett to investigate the changes to the river characteristics along its course – this was definitely a day for wellies and waterproofs! Some light rain towards the end of the day completed the experience to make it true geography fieldwork.
