With some Year 10’s on their Duke of Edinburgh, the remainder of the year embarked on three days of fun and enjoyment closer to home!

The Year 10 pupils started their three days of activities with a trip to St Andrews Lakes which offered the opportunity for our pupils to challenge themselves physically, and persist through a long day of different activities. Pupils rotated around four activities of paddle boarding, bell- boating, raft building and use of the aqua park. All pupils had a ‘splashing’ good time, especially those who got to unbalance Bethany staff members from their paddle boards into the lake!

On day two, resilience was the word of the day as we headed to Go Ape and the Treetop Challenge. With some pupils a little nervous and tentative about the prospect of the heights ahead, the pupils demonstrated their resilience by overcoming their fear and trepidation. Many were helped by and given encouragement from their peers and friends, demonstrating both teamwork and the caring nature of our pupils, as well as a little help from their teachers both from the ground and in the trees. After the presentation of their certificates for completing the Treetop Challenge, Year 10 returned to school for the option of swimming (all were too tired!), rounders, football or the cinema (hosted in the Function Suite). After an exhilarating morning most chose the cinema and all pupils enjoyed their treat of a pick ‘n’ mix.

So, we came to our third and final day, and we were off to the zoo. Port Lympne allowed the pupils to see the magnificent sights of the animal kingdom including Nubian giraffes, spectacled bears, black rhinos, and western lowland gorillas to name but a few. For many pupils they had not been to a zoo or conservation reserve for many years and it was the perfect way to see these beautiful animals.

These three days have been a fantastic opportunity to get back to some normality. They have been very enjoyable and a brilliant way to celebrate the end of year 10.

As staff, we would like to commend our pupils on their behaviour throughout all the activities and for representing the school superbly well.
