Sixth Form Music Trip to BBC

Posted In Music

Whilst most of us were enjoying a well-deserved break over half term, our Sixth Form Music Performance pupils were lucky enough to get the opportunity to attend an inspiring visit to attend a two-day event at the famous Tobacco Dock in London where BBC Music had taken over the venue for their annual music industry conference, BBC Introducing LIVE.

The event is designed for young people to become inspired by taking part in a series of workshops, seminars, and live music opportunities hosted by real industry professionals.

Our pupils were fortunate enough to spend two days at the event and attended talks with extremely successful British artists such as Slaves, Sam Fender, and Gabrielle Aplin; the last of which found great success when releasing her rendition of “The Power of Love” for the hugely successful 2012 John Lewis Christmas advert. As well as attending these motivational talks, pupils were also given the opportunity to play music with other musicians, attend countless live music events, as well as many other inspiring opportunities such as watching BBC Radio live broadcasts.

These pupils have now come away from this event feeling inspired and prepared for the challenging world of the music industry that awaits them post-education, and have experienced an opportunity that is truly invaluable. Our very own Head of Music, Jonny Brinson, says, “This is just the first of many trips we plan to run in this department. Whilst our day to day focus is on inspiring young musicians in the classroom, there are some things that can’t be learnt within the confines of school, so we want to give all of our pupils who are passionate about Music the opportunity to experience what life could be like for them once they leave school. After two days, these pupils already feel equipped and prepared for the journey they are now on to reach their goals.”
