School Life

Bethany is an extension of the home – a happy, caring, supportive environment in which the children’s well-being is paramount. It is a place where learning and improvement permeates the culture of the School.

The sense of family is enhanced at Bethany by a successful house system. Friendly competition has always been an important feature of life at Bethany; the three competitive houses, Kiplings, Roberts and Speakers, have challenged one another throughout the School’s long history. Competitions range from sporting to musical, dramatic to academic, but always have fun at their core. Pupils are assigned a house when they join Bethany, and they’ll soon be cheering on their mascots and racking up points to be the next winners of the coveted ‘Jessel Shield’.

“We are over the moon with Arabella’s achievements at Bethany. All the support from the wonderful teachers has definitely paid off. She can now accept her first-choice of university places at UAL, studying Fashion Marketing.”

The School day

The school day is divided into six lessons, each 50 minutes in duration, and an activities period at the end of each day. We do not have lessons on Saturdays but, for our boarding community, there is an extensive programme of trips and activities as well as the opportunity to relax and socialise with fellow pupils.

Meals at Bethany

At Bethany, we source ingredients that are in season from a range of growers. Our Holroyd Howe chefs choose their own suppliers so they can have the pick of the produce that is seasonal and local to them, ensuring that our food is fresher, tastier and more nutritious.

A selection of delicious hot and cold food is available at lunch with dishes ranging from slow cooked pulled shoulder of cajun pork to tofu paneer with crispy poppadoms and saffron rice, catering for all dietary requirements. Boarding pupils are also provided with breakfast and tea, all served in our purpose-built Dining Hall complex.

Meals are divided into main meals with a vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free option always available. For food allergen information, please call 01580 211273.
