As is tradition, The Mount’s Sixth Form house officials enjoyed a meal out to celebrate the superb job they do in helping out in the boarding house. This year our leadership team is made up of Lower Sixth boarders and Upper Sixth boarders, whom despite having moved to the Orchard, return of their own volition to continue contributing to The Mount.
Each year they visit a restaurant of their choice, for the past four years they have selected a ‘classic English pub with pub grub and a pint’, so for the fourth consecutive year the team and house staff visited The Flying Horse in Smarden. They enjoyed a lovely meal including classics such as bangers and mash (with onion gravy of course) and ham, eggs and chips. Local ales only were allowed which meant the group enjoyed a pint of Masterbrew or Spitfire.
The pub incidentally dates back to the late 18th century and is named after a racetrack which once stood opposite.
