MMK Mind visits Bethany

Following the charity day back in September, Mount pupils have been collecting their sponsorship money towards their two chosen charities. This year the funds raised are being split between a Ghanaian boy we sponsor (Sandy), and a local charity for young people with mental health issues; Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind (MMK Mind).

Nicole Griffiths, from the charity, was kind enough to visit this morning and take a Mount house assembly on mental health and the work of MMK Mind. The boys were hugely interested in her talk, as evidenced by the tremendous number of questions in the Q&A session to close the talk. This also ties in with the Mount assembly theme this term, which is ‘Keep It Positive’ centred around well-being and mental health. Pupils have been researching, creating and delivering a series of excellent presentations related to this topic.

The final sum raised will be confirmed after half term when all sponsorship money is collected, but there is no doubt following the visit that mental health is a very real challenge facing many young people today, and the work of charities such as MMK Mind goes a long way to helping those in need.
