When did you join Bethany?

I came to Bethany in 2012 when I was in Year 7 so like my sister, I’ve been here since the beginning!

What A levels are you studying?

I am studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths because I’m really interested in what all three have to offer and Biology is related to what I want to do in the future.

Are you involved in any sports teams or music activities outside of lessons?

I play hockey for the first team and I also play netball outside of School. I was elected as Head of School this year which means I have a lot more responsibility now. I represent Bethany at different events such as school fairs, Open Mornings, and being a role model in general.

What do you enjoy about boarding?

I come from a massive family so it’s comforting being at a boarding school when there’s always someone around but you do also have your own space. Your life is also very structured which I think is important.

What is your ambition after leaving Bethany?

I would like to be a doctor working for the NHS or in a private hospital and I really want to represent Bethany once I have left. So far I have applied to UCL, Leeds and Lancaster to study Medicine.

What advice would you give to a pupil from your country thinking of coming to Bethany?

Bring your culture and tradition with you and stay true to yourself! Don’t’ be afraid to embrace and appreciate other cultures such as  Chinese, Indian, Nigerian, Middle-Eastern, there’s a big variety at Bethany. We learn about each other’s cultures through food and just talking to people. We are such a diverse school so you’re bound to be friends with someone who has a different nationality to you.

What do you think is the best thing about the Sixth Form at Bethany?

Pastoral support is really good so having a lot of teachers supporting you is great to help you choose the right course. The teachers know my potential so it’s nice to hear what they have to say.

Have any members of staff influenced/had an impact on you?

I’d like to thank Mr Vickerman because during GCSE years he fuelled my passion for Chemistry and encouraged me to do it for A level. Now it’s one of my favourite subjects!

Maria-Bisila Dougan was chosen as the Head of School for Bethany this year, because of the excellent example she sets to everyone.  She is hugely respected by staff and peers alike.  An incredibly hard working and humble pupil, Maria-Bisila always sees the best in others and give 100% commitment to everything.  She is an outstanding role model and will make an exceptional Head of School.”
