Hive art exhibition is buzzing

On Thursday 7th June, the Art department at Bethany was proud to present its first ever Key Stage 3 exhibition, which was an opportunity to showcase the work produced by the pupils in Year’s 7, 8 and 9. All the year groups responded well to the theme of ‘Hives and Swarms’ and produced work in a variety of media including ceramics, wire, pencil, ink and wash, soft pastels and paper sculpture.

Pupils developed skills in working collaboratively and responding to the work of artists. Our Artist in Residence, Jasmine Haskell, worked with our pupils to produce theatrical forms including a wonderful 3D wasp and a web of nests and suspended bugs.

Our Art Scholars produced additional pieces to showcase their talents, including venturing to portraiture. Head of Art, Sarah Smart, said: “The exhibition was very well attended and there was a really positive atmosphere and wonderful feedback. The Art department would really like to thank all those who attended and of course our very talented pupils for working so hard to produce an excellent show. We hope this will be the first of many successful Key Stage 3 exhibitions.”
