What do you do at Bethany?
What did you do before you came to Bethany?
I was previously a university lecturer in China and an academic scholar at SOAS University of London. I also taught Mandarin at Dartford Grammar school as part of my PGCE placement.
What is your favourite novel/music/artist/film and why?
My favourite film is Titanic with Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. I love romantic films but this film is especially close to my heart as it is about a couple from vastly different social backgrounds who embark on a romantic journey during the ill-fated voyage.
What is your favourite quotation and why?
There is a famous Chinese saying ” God helps the one who helps oneself.” Translated this means if you want something from life you have to work hard to achieve it but hard work coupled with determination brings about success.
What was your favourite subject at school and why?
Chinese literature. In particular, I enjoy Chinese poetry as I use it and it means to express my feelings about life and education.
Why do you like working at Bethany?
Friendly and professional staff in a wonderful location.
What interests do you have outside Bethany?
Writing poetry and learning new languages such as German. I also enjoy playing basketball.
What is your favourite childhood memory?
As a child, I would do a local performance for Chinese ribbon and fan dancing.
What is your favourite colour and why?
Green. This is why I like Bethany school so much because it is surrounded by beautiful green countryside.
If you were not doing what you are doing now, what would you like to do?
I would probably return to a journalism career as I have previously written many articles for leading Chinese newspapers.
