I grew up in Beckenham, in Kent, before attending Reading University to study Geography.  I joined the Royal Air Force in 1979 and spent almost 30 years in a variety of roles serving at locations across the UK and overseas.  My RAF career included 5 years in teaching roles and 2 years as the Head of the Defence School of Personnel Administration responsible for training all military and civilian administrative staff in the RN, Army and RAF.  Following retirement as a Group Captain, I spent 11 years as Bursar and Clerk to the Governors at Battle Abbey School and also became an Independent Schools Inspectorate Compliance Inspector in 2014.

After retiring as Bursar in 2020, I now work part time for an education consultancy company and also act as a guardian to several international students at boarding school in Brighton.  I am also a Governor at Lewes Old Grammar School in East Sussex.

I live just outside Eastbourne with my husband John and our dogs (an Irish Setter and a black lab) and spare time is spent walking with them on the South Downs.
