Mr Tim Hart Dyke, BA (Hons), PGCE, DipEd Head of English/Head of Sixth Form
Date you joined the School
What do you do at Bethany?
I teach English at KS3 level as well as GCSE and A level. I also lead the team of experienced Sixth Form tutors.
What did you do before you came to Bethany?
I taught English and was a Housemaster for seventy 13-18 year old boys at a school in north Devon. The nearest town was 12 miles away and the school felt very isolated but it provided me with an excellent start to my teaching career.
What is your favourite quotation and why?
A bad attitude is like a flat tyre. You won’t get anywhere unless you change it!
Why do you like working at Bethany?
There are numerous reasons. The friendliness and openness of the pupils, the good teaching and learning facilities, the support of my colleagues and the School’s determination to keep abreast of the changes in education. Best of all I like being in the classroom and seeing the success the pupils achieve.
What is your favourite childhood memory?
The summer holidays. When I was young the long, hot summers just seemed to last for ever and it never seemed to rain. As a family we went on camping holidays near Royan, France and these bring back very happy memories. I still love camping and as a family we visit France regularly.
What is your favourite colour and why?
I love the colour red. It is generally a warm and eye-catching colour, is the colour of love and it also implies a sense of danger. My very first car was a Datsun Cherry and the way it looked and the unreliable way it drove meant red was an appropriate colour for it. Nearly all the cars I have bought since have been red.
If you were not doing what you are doing now, what would you like to do?
I love teaching but if I had to choose another job I would be interested in being an estate agent. I could then go into other people’s houses and use their good ideas to improve my own house!
