Mr Glen Ridout, School Caretaker
Date you joined the School
What do you do at Bethany?
As a part time caretaker I patrol the School grounds in the early morning and evenings to lock and unlock buildings and ensure the site is safe and secure.
What did you do before you came to Bethany?
I ran my own small garden maintenance business.
What is your favourite novel/music/artist/film and why?
My favourite band is Pearl Jam, especially their song Yellow Leadbetter (we had it playing in the church on our wedding day).
What is your favourite quotation and why?
My favourite quotation is by Alan Hansen, who said, You can’t win anything with kids. He said this about a young Manchester United team who then went on to win the league and cup double that year and the treble in the 1998/99 season. To me this says that the youth are the future and that working as a team you can achieve great things.
What was your favourite subject at School and why?
Sports science as I enjoy playing competitive sports and learning the science behind sports.
Why do you like working at Bethany?
It is in a wonderful setting and the school has a really good ethos.
What interests do you have outside Bethany?
I enjoy cycling, playing football with my two sons, playing snooker with friends and watching Gillingham FC play at Priestfield Stadium.
What is your favourite childhood memory?
One winter it snowed heavily, my family and I enjoyed building snowmen and sledding. This wasn’t something that happened often, so has stuck in my mind.
What is your favourite colour and why?
Red, as it’s Manchester United’s home kit.
If you were not doing what you are doing now, what would you like to do?
I would love to travel the world, visiting remote places and living off the land (Ray Mears style).
