Congratulations to former Bethany pupil and baking enthusiast Ethan Marshall who has won a bronze medal at the Hotelympia 2018 Competition. The 19-year-old entered the wedding cake competition and excelled, wowing judges with his white and green floral four-tiered cake.

Ethan said: “Since leaving Bethany, I’ve been studying my Level 3 Advanced Diploma for professional chefs. As part of this course I was entered into Hotelympia which is a nationwide competition for professional chefs, amongst whom were chefs from The Savoy, The Ritz and Parliament. This is a moment I am very proud of and something I am looking forward to developing in my future career. I will be finishing my course soon and I am looking forward to working in one of the big London hotels.”

Hotelympia began in 1935, the Trade & Technical Exhibitions LTD teamed up with Hotel and Review Caterer & Hotelkeeper and together they launched ‘Hotel, Restaurant & Catering Exhibition’. This got off to a roaring success by attracting 30,000 people across six days and gained high achievements and was named ‘the greatest exhibition in the history of catering’ by Caterer and Hotelkeeper. In 2004, the exhibition moved to ExCeL Centre in London where it has remained since.

Throughout Ethan’s time at Bethany, Liz MacRae, Head of Food and Nutrition Studies, was at his side. She said: “I’m super proud of Ethan’s achievements since leaving Bethany. He has really excelled and I’m certain he has a great career in front of him. Every year since I’ve taught here, one of my food students has gone onto catering college which is a fantastic achievement and accolade.”

Headmaster Francie Healy said: “on behalf of everyone here at Bethany we would like to express how proud we are of Ethan and his bronze medal. We believe that the support and care we provide at Bethany has given him the resources he needed in order to excel and we wish him all the best for the future.”
