Community advent windows opened at Bethany

Advent is an important time of year in the Christian Church calendar in which we celebrate the countdown to the birth of Jesus. Advent calendars were originally created to help younger members of the family count down the days until Christmas Day and these have since gone on to be used more widely and are often sold with a chocolate treat inside for each day.

In November, Rev Serena Willoughby, Chaplain at Bethany School, was delighted to be asked to participate in Goudhurst & Kilndown Church’s Advent Window Challenge. 24 houses, shops and businesses in Goudhurst, Kilndown and Curtisden Green were set the challenge to each decorate a window for one of the days in Advent. Every design had to include a star and the number for the day. Families in the local community have then been encouraged to ‘follow the star’ around the villages and to try and spot as many as they can while they are out and about. Bethany created two windows – maybe you have spotted them? For those that haven’t yet – keep an eye out for them as they will both be on display until the end of Advent. Can you guess where they are from the pictures?
