On Sunday 20th August, Bethany played host to 25th ‘HOP’, an annual event run by Morris Minor Clubs of Kent.
The HOP is organised by one of the three Kent Clubs on a rotating basis, in August or September. Money raised is donated to charity, chosen by the organising committee.
This year’s event was organised by The Maidstone branch and based on the delightful playing fields of Bethany School. Use was made of School facilities and power supply, with many thanks to The School. We were very lucky with the weather, it being a fine and very sunny day.
About 65 Morris Minors arrived in late morning and we were graced with a flypast by the red arrows, on their way towards Eastbourne.
As part of each HOP, a ‘run-out’ takes place, as Morris Minors take to the lanes in a 20 – 25 miles round trip at the choice of the organising club. This year’s run-out was a circuit of Bewl Water, taking around one hour, although we could not see the reservoir. A raffle was held for a variety of interesting donated objects.
A donation was made towards Bethany, to be used towards developing the School’s Enrichment programme, which offers a whole host of extra-curricular activities for the pupils to enjoy.
