East India Club, London, Friday 13th April

Friday 13th is not thought to be the luckiest day for some, but it was a wonderful evening for 22 members of The Bethanians’ Society who gathered in London at the East India Club for an evening of club wines and fine dining.

The group enjoyed a starter of beetroot-soaked salmon and main course of roast duck followed by a men’s favourite of treacle pudding and orange custard with cheese and biscuits to finish served with coffee. The Royal toast was proposed along with the Bethanians’ Society and absent friends. Members still carried on into the late hours before hitting the trains home.

Such evenings are always well attended and greatly enjoyed by the invited guests. The Bethanians’ Society members young and old gather round one long board room table to catch up on old times and add new news. It was pleasing to see new people attending, many of whom are keen to come back for next year’s event.

Thank you to Robert Pilbeam and Paul Holmes who set up a very popular event which is now into its 34th year!
