About Bethany School : Sixth Form
Joining the Sixth Form

Our Sixth Form continues to go from strength to strength.   It has grown by 50% in the last few years and has now reached its target size of 120 to 130.

Every year some 15 students join Bethany for their Sixth Form education.  They come to us from a variety of schools (grammar schools, independent schools, comprehensive schools and schools overseas), for a variety of reasons.   Some come to take advantage of our spread of Art and Design based courses; some wish to experience boarding before moving on to university; others come from single sex schools, preferring to study in a co-educational environment in the Sixth Form.

Most of our current Year 11 students at Bethany stay on here to complete their two-year Sixth Form programme.   Our Sixth Form students certainly secure remarkable examination results and both academically and socially they regularly out-perform most of those who leave at 16 for education elsewhere.

In November we hold a Sixth Form Taster Day to which we invite all prospective Sixth Form students, as well as our own Year 11 students.   This provides the opportunity not only to experience what Bethany has to offer but to investigate A level options in detail in a series of dedicated subject sessions.   There is the opportunity to mix with current students and to talk to current Sixth Formers about the reality of Sixth Form life.

For those prospective students who are unable to join us for the Taster Day we are always pleased to arrange a taster morning for you to sit in on some Sixth Form lessons, meet the teachers and other staff.

To proceed with an application for the Sixth Form we would need permission to approach a student’s current Headteacher to request a reference and predicted GCSE grades.   Should this prove satisfactory we would then write with a provisional offer of a place, subject to the student achieving our minimum entry requirements of four GCSE's grades A-C, including those subjects they wish to study at A level.
