Young Enterprise Public Speaking Champion

On 9th February, Winston Campbell, representing his Young Enterprise company "Inspired" spoke at the Ashford, Weald and Shepway area heat of the Young Enterprise Public Speaking competition.  The topic he chose to speak on was: "The environment is very precious to us however we are using too many of our natural resources, from energy to water, and creating far too much waste that is being buried in landfill.  How should individuals be made to understand their responsibilities towards the environment?"  Amongst speakers from other schools in our local area, Winston deservedly won this competition and went on to the County final as area winner.

The Kent County Final took place the following evening at Canterbury University's Kent Business Centre.  Winston spoke on the same topic, facing strong opposition as every speaker had already won their own area heat.  Speaking clearly, with excellent pace and tone and using humour to reinforce his arguments, we are delighted that Winston was declared the winner and is now the Young Enterprise Kent County Public Speaking Champion.  He will go on to deliver his speech as one of the guest speakers at the Kent Young Enterprise Company Competition Finals to be held in April.  Well done Winston!  He is pictured being presented with his certificate and shield by Martin Vye, the County Councillor for Canterbury South and Chair of Judges.

Students from Bethany have enjoyed tremendous success in this competition.  In the last four years speakers from Bethany Young Enterprise companies have won every area heat and provided the runner-up in two of those four years.  Two of the area winners have also gone on to win the County Final.  59 companies participate in Young Enterprise Kent therefore to win the County final twice in four years speaks volumes abut the quality of public speaking at Bethany as well as the "get-up-and-go" attitude of Bethany students.  Well done to all involved!
