Although Mr Dorey had originally hoped to undertake the full 260 kms, but having been below par in the weeks leading up to the event, he managed to successfully complete the shorter (!) 170 kms course - quite an achievement since prior to the race the furthest he had cycled was 80 kms in one day.
The Belgian weather did its best to put the riders off. With a temperature of just 5 degrees, strong winds and heavy rain almost throughout, it made for a day full of atmosphere, challenge, mud and slippery tracks, especially over the infamous cobbles! Despite sore legs Mr Dorey was delighted to complete the route and would like to thank everyone for their tremendous generosity. To date he has raised £3,500 which will be sent to the Blue Dragon Children's Foundation in Vietnam and the money will make a huge difference to the lives of the street children in Hanoi. Mr Dorey first visited the charity in 2006 and saw for himself the work being done there and hopes to make a return visit later this year.
