Michelin starred chef judges Masterchef

On Wednesday, 17th June, Tim Johnson, chef/proprietor of Apicius Restaurant in Cranbrook, which was awarded a Michelin star in 2008 (www.restaurant-apicius.co.uk) was the guest judge, along with Mr Dorey, at this year's final of the Bethany Masterchef competition.

Each of the three finalists had already won their termly Masterchef heat which takes place during Chef School, which is still one of the most popular activities' options.

Jorge Hoad from Year 7.

The theme for the final was to create two cheese dishes to form part of a local delicatessen's annual cheese week festival promoting sales at their international cheese counter and cafe.

Joshua Gane from Year 8

The finalists were judged not only on the quality of their dishes but also on timing, presentation and organisation and hygiene.

It was a tremendous achievement for a student from Year 7 to reach the final and Jorge Hoad's dishes were:  Cheese and chili muffins and crumpet pizza.

Joshua Gane cooked Georgian cheese pies and tested our general knowledge with an Osmaliya, which is a Lebanese dessert.

Georgia Jackson from Year 9 produced Asparagus Cheese and Egg Tartlets and Chocolate Dream.

The judges deliberated long and hard before announcing Georgia Jackson as the winner and she will be presented with her trophy on Speech Day.  Tim Johnson also presented Georgia with a prize of his own - lunch at Apicius for her and her parents.  We are very grateful to both Tim Johnson and the Headmaster for giving up their time to judge and we look forward to more mouthwatering delicacies in next year's competition!
