Geography Department wins National Award

The Geography Department at Bethany was delighted to learn that it had been awarded the Secondary Key Stage 3 Geography Quality Mark awarded by the Geographical Association as part of the Government's Action Plan for Geography.

The Award recognises high levels of achievement and progress in the quality of teaching and styles of learning in a modern department. Garry Simmons, our Head of Geography was particularly pleased with this Award as it comes on the back of the Department's best ever examination results at both A Level and GCSE, which were considerably above the national average for the subject.

Chris Fisher, the School's Director of Teaching and Learning and Geography Teacher, said that the Award was well deserved as it recognises the high standards and innovation in the teaching and learning of Geography.

Bethany is one of 80 schools throughout the country to have received this Award, which is now in its fourth year and which is rapidly becoming embedded as the national standard for the teaching of geography in schools.  A rigorous moderation process took place in late July
