The Geography Department has been as busy as ever with various fieldwork trips.
In March the Lower Sixth visited East London investigating urban regeneration for their assessed coursework. The main focus was to assess quality of life and deprivation in Canning Town and to evaluate a range of strategies aimed at improving people's lives in the area.

The group was given a personal tour around Canning Town by Youth Workers Tina and Mandy and had a police escort from two police community support officers.
|
They also spent one morning walking around the dramatic Canary Wharf business district and had a sneak preview of the site of the 2012 Olympic Games, which has already been completely transformed since the department's visit there last year. The site is being landscaped ready for the construction of the Olympic facilities. Local people were asked if they thought the Olympics would benefit them. Please ask our geographers for their answers.

Also in March the Year 7 geographers visited Central London as part of a combined Music/Geography day. In the morning they listened to the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican and in the afternoon they took a walk along the Thames, starting at St Paul's Cathedral, across the Millennium Bridge along to City Hall.
Along the walk they identified and plotted famous landmarks, assessed land use and developed observational skills. They also had to try to estimate the age of some famous buildings. Despite the cold wind everyone had a good time and even managed to stop for ice cream!
