Electrifying 'Grease'

For those of you who weren't lucky enough to see this year's school production of 'Grease' in early February - you missed a real treat.

Around 80 pupils took to the stage, another 25 performed in the Orchestra, with many more helping out backstage with the set, sound, lighting and make-up.

As Mrs Kirk, our Head of Drama, mentioned in the programme, a Bethany production wouldn't be as exciting without the now obligatory disaster somewhere along the way.  Just before Christmas we found that our venue in Southborough had to close for emergency refurbishment.

This left us with little time to find a new venue and meant putting a hold on our planning and building of the set.  We were very grateful to the Queen's Hall Theatre in Cranbrook for allowing us to use their facilities at such short notice and during a busy week for them.

After last year we were hoping that this year we would not have to deal with snow!  However, it did threaten again and the cast, orchestra and crew all had to work incredibly hard to make up for the time lost at the start of term.

However, it all comes together in the end and as you can see from these photographs all the performers thoroughly enjoyed themselves and their hard work in rehearsals certainly paid off.  All three performances were sold out.

Grease, the Musical, was the longest running show in Broadway history when it closed in 1980 after 3,388 performances.  It went on to become a West End hit and a hugely successful film.  As the musical came first, not all the songs made famous by the film were performed but then again, what we put on was the original production!

The Orchestra had perfected the musical numbers and some of its members are fast becoming experienced pit players.  Thanks go to everyone involved in the production; to Mrs Kirk and Mr Stubberfield and all the many other members of staff, pupils and of course parents for their support.  We look forward to next year's show!
