Easter Highlights

Easter Egg Box Competition

Towards the end of term, the Year 8's took part in a competition to make a box for a small Easter Egg.
They had been practising making nets and folding them to make boxes of different shapes, such as cubes, cuboids, triangular prisms and hexagonal prisms.  On
the day, the pupils had to make their box unaided and from memory, with basic maths equipment and a piece of A4 card.  The results were very varied and
imaginative and some of the winning boxes are pictured here.

Masterchef Heat

This term's Masterchef heat had an Irish theme as it took place the day after St Patrick's Day.  The young chefs' task was to prepare either a savoury or a sweet dish for a St Patrick's Day celebration.  Scott Smith, head chef at the Star & Eagle in Goudhurst was the guest judge, along with Mr Dorey and their winner was Elliot Waters from Year 7 who will go on to contest the final next term.

Scholars' Evening

This year's Scholars' Presentation Evening took place on 19th March.  All our scholars from across the year groups showcased their work and the evening concluded with performances from our music and drama scholars.  Thank you to all the parents who supported this event.

Curling Championships

On 25th March Bethany's curling squad made up of nine pupils from Year 8 right through to the Upper Sixth took part in the English Schools' Curling Championships.  The team played exceptionally well with everyone in the squad throwing accurate stones and keeping their cool.  The team came a very close third, only losing out to a place in the final by a few points.  Mrs Digby, the team's coach, would like to say a big thank you to the whole squad.  Everyone played as a team and the Skips, Jim Haydon and Robert Homewood were outstanding.  Emily Bristow was "man" of the match for her accuracy in placing stones under pressure.  (Photos to follow)

Easter Concert

The Easter Concert took place on the final Tuesday of term.  We were treated to a wonderful and varied programme of music and congratulations to Mr Stubberfield, Mr Briggs and all the music staff for assisting the pupils with the concert.

Sport Relief Hockey

One of the sporting highlights of the school year is the Staff vs Sixth Form Hockey match which this year took place on the last Wednesday of the term.  This was one of several events that took place in aid of Sport Relief and it was an excellent match, played in the best spirit, with both teams enjoying themselves.  The final result was a one-all draw but best of all, with the help of the Charities Reps, a good sum of money was raised.  Thank you to all who played (and umpired) and to all who supported the event.

Easter Service

On the final day of term we had our Easter Service at Marden Parish Church.  We are very grateful to the people of Marden for allowing us to use their lovely Church.  Thanks go to the Chaplain and to the Music Department for what was an enjoyable and meaningful service.
