This year's Lower School Production was very different in style and content from previous productions. Almost 50 pupils from Year 7 to 9 performed "Do We Ever See Grace?" by Noel Greig. It is a non-naturalistic, stylised piece based around the story of a girl called Grace who wanted to join the circus. The piece is presented as a clown show and a kaeidoscope of impressions are created around the central character, which represent all those people who are scored for their differences or vulnerability.
The play was inspired by a poem about a London "bag lady" and the topic "social rejects". The clowns are a symbol of those people who are laughed at, mocked and scorned who somehow develop a vigorous resistance to injustice.
All the pupils worked very hard to prepare this piece, with many rehearsals and some hot ones at that. Mrs Kirk, the Head of Drama, said that they had all been a pleasure to work with and she was impressed with the high standard of acting. She thanked all the staff for their help and particularly the Music Department and the Orchestra as their input provided the perfect accompaniment. She also said that it had been great to tackle something different this year and hoped that the piece had provided some interesting food for thought. For more pictures please see the gallery below.
