Masterchef with an Irish flavour

The most recent Chef School Masterchef heat took place on 18th March.  The challenge was to cook a savoury or sweet dish, in one hour, to serve at a St Patrick's Day celebration.

The heat was judged by Tim Johnson, chef/proprietor of Apicius in Cranbrook, (recently awarded a Michelin star) as well as our own Mr Healy.

The dishes prepared by the students included potato pancakes, leek & potato soup with soda bread, Molly Malone cookies, smoked salmon & scallion pancakes, bread & butter pudding with Irish whiskey, colcannon with corned beef & salmon spinach with shamrock patties.

Both judges were very impressed with the food and commented on the high standard of presentation, flavour and enthusiasm.  Tim Johnson wanted the young chefs to know that the winner (to be announced at the end of term assembly) had been chosen not only because of their high quality food but for the care, organisation, hygiene and timing that made the whole performance outstanding.
