19 Sixth Formers travelled to the Lake District over the Easter weekend for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award practice expedition and for some it was part of their preparation for a trip to the Himalayas in 2009.
With Easter being early this year the weather forecast for the area looked mixed with a bit of everything expected. This turned out to be something of an understatement with gale force winds and snow for much of the time. It made for very challenging conditions and it was certainly a test for all the kit!
It was fantastic to see how well all the pupils kept going and how they kept their sense of humour over the four days, with plenty of help and encouragement from the teachers involved. It was particularly good to see Dana, our gap student from Australia, keeping the girls going and to see how surprised she was with the amount of snow we experienced - it certainly added that little extra to the dozens of photos that were taken. Well done to everyone involved!
