Bethany School is justifiably proud of the results achieved by its pupils year on year. We applaud the achievements of our dedicated teachers and committed pupils.
Bethany draws its pupils at all levels of the school from a deliberately broad ability range. We believe that all pupils who are capable of obtaining good, national qualifications should be allowed to do so. We also believe it is important that our results are viewed in this light.
The ability profile would suggest that our results at GCSE should be slightly above, and A Level should be below, the national average for all schools. In this light, the 2009 A level results, for example, where there was a 100% pass rate with 52% at A or B level represent a tremendous achievement. We are also thrilled that, once again, the DCSF Contextual Value Added** (CVA) measure for A levels placed us in the top few percent of schools NATIONALLY and was the highest score for any A Level school either state or independent in Kent. Similarly our GCSE results year on year are above the national average.
** Value-added CVA (Contextual value-added) is a national statistic produced by the DCSF (Dept for Children, Schools and Families) and was introduced in January 2009 for the 2008 A level results. The national average is 1000. The top 5% of schools nationally scored over 1033.1 in 2008 for A levels.
